2008 Photo Workshops with Rob Stimpson

Seeing comes before words. The child looks and recognizes before it can speak.
-- John Berger, Ways of Seeing

The way we see is affected by the things we know, our education and upbringing or in what we believe. It can take years to develop "the art of seeing" but again, it is about who you are and what makes you tick that will greatly influence the type of images you will create. This quality is what I find most interesting in people. It helps us all to look at things from a different perspective. Remember the camera is an extension of your eye and mind. It can become the box of crayons you once owned when you were a child. Experts say our creative peak is around 5 years old -- just before we are sent off to school and bombarded with all sorts of rules so... come on out and join me for a one day, a weekend or a one week workshop and see for yourself what you can do with your camera and just be a kid again.

These workshops will appeal to those who have an understanding of how the camera works, unless noted on the program listing. Knowledge of where the camera controls are located (i.e. menu, white balance and ISO, etc.) and how the camera works (i.e. f-stops and shutter speeds) are essential. The workshops help you to move out of your comfort zones as well as introducing you to new challenges with photography -- assignments are designed around you knowing the fundamentals. If you want to take a course but are not sure of your ability or level, call me and we can discuss it.

Please let me know what your expectations are for participating in a workshop -- what you hope to learn and accomplish. This will help me meet your needs as a participant.

N.B. -- upon registration a more complete itinerary will be sent to you.

Testimonials

...I remember the exercise you had us do. We had to just sit and look at an object for several minutes before we took our picture. At the time I thought to myself "lets go, lets hurry up and learn something before the day is over." I guess I could say I was feeling a bit anxious, but that exercise has helped me so much. Since that day you can not believe how it has changed my photographs (for the better). I think about all the other things you said that day too and it has helped me tremendously. So thank you so much. --M Parsons

I attended your presentation last week and wanted to let you know it was outstanding. I knew it was going to be a real treat after the first few slides. It wasn't just the photography, but your description of the settings, etc. If you are scheduled to do another presentation this year, please let me know. --J Laing
